Did Cowboys’ CeeDee Lamb subtly ask for help in discussing Dak Prescott?

While CeeDee Lamb is knocking on the door of superstardom, Prescott had very little support outside of No. 88, who finished the season fourth in catches and sixth in both receiving yards and touchdowns amongst receivers.

The Cowboys had an elite offense for most of 2022 with Prescott under center, but the decision to trade Amari Cooper last offseason came home to roost in the Divisional Round loss against the 49ers.

Prescott found very little success through the air when he wasn’t throwing to Lamb. In fact, no other Cowboys pass-catcher, including Dalton Schultz, finished with more than 27 receiving yards. Lamb had 10 catches for 117 yards by himself.

Appearing on the “Around the NFL” podcast leading up to Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup between the Eagles and Chiefs, Lamb was asked what the Cowboys have to do in order to reach a Super Bowl with Prescott as their quarterback.

His answer will resonate with every Cowboys fan.

CeeDee Lamb wants the Cowboys to give Dak Prescott more weapons.

“You’ve got to surround him. Straight like that.”

“Look at the Eagles. They’ve got three receivers. Great tight end group. They run the ball well. O-Line is very phenomenal. You look at San Fran. They’ve got, they surrounded their quarterback. You get success ultimately.”

“I mean granted we’ve got just as, as many weapons, but that extra player, or that one, all it takes is one. You can be so close, in that, to the Super Bowl that they can be a deciding factor.”

Was Lamb subtly asking the Cowboys’ front office to get him some help this offseason? Probably not, but he would surely reap the benefits of Dallas adding another playmaker (or two) add wide receiver. That has to be on his mind. While the arrival of another legit WR would potentially hurt his numbers, Lamb understands that’s what it takes to reach the mountaintop.

Being a team-first player, Lamb likened the Cowboys’ weapons to that of Philadelphia and San Francisco, but anyone outside the building can admit that isn’t true.

Lamb and Tony Pollard, who could leave this offseason, pale in comparison to the Eagles’ AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert trio, and 49ers’ arsenal of Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, Christian McCaffrey, and George Kittle.

Patrick Mahomes is the ultimate outlier, but look at some of the best teams in the NFL. Almost all of their QBs have two stud receivers. Aside from the Eagles and Niners, the Bengals have Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. The Bucs had Mike Evans and Chris Godwin when they won it all, the Vikings have Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen, and went out and traded for TJ Hockenson.

The list goes on, and proves that Michael Gallup, an aging TY Hilton, James Washington, and Noah Brown isn’t going to cut it in 2023.

While Lamb took the NFL by storm in 2022, it’s fair to say his game would ascend to another level if he had a proper sidekick. That goes for Prescott, too, because he’s flourished throwing to top-shelf WRs (Cooper being the other) in his career.
