Green Bay Packers Snag Promising Kicker Brayden Narveson Off Waivers from Titans

The NFL’s roster cut deadline passed on Tuesday at 3:00 PM CT, marking the moment when the Green Bay Packers reduced their team from 90 to the final 53 players. Following these cuts, the majority of the dismissed Packers players entered the NFL’s waiver system. This system allows teams to pick up waived players in reverse order based on the previous season’s standings.

The Packers, who finished 25th in the waiver priority due to a playoff run that included a Wild Card game victory, potentially faced challenges in claiming high-demand players. However, they succeeded in acquiring one notable player through waivers: kicker Brayden Narveson, recently waived by the Tennessee Titans.

Narveson, a promising rookie out of North Carolina State, was notable during the preseason for his strong performance. Despite competing against veteran kicker Nick Folk — who led the NFL in field goal percentage last season — Narveson made a compelling case for himself.

In his college final year, he made 18 of 23 field goal attempts, including a lengthy 57-yarder. His preseason was particularly impressive; he succeeded in 6 out of 7 field goal attempts.

His highlights included a perfect game where he converted three field goals, one from an impressive distance of 59 yards and another 46-yarder that clinched a preseason game win. His single preseason miss was from 58 yards, narrowly missing the mark.

Narveson’s acquisition by the Packers was a move anticipated by some, especially after his standout preseason performance noted by local sports observers. While the Packers have yet to announce who will be released to make room for Narveson, speculation suggests that it might be Greg Joseph, who had secured a spot over Anders Carlson in the initial 53-man roster. This points to a strategic enhancement in the Packers’ special teams lineup as they prepare for the upcoming season.
