Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott provided an update on Terrel Bernard’s status after their practice on Wednesday.
The Buffalo Bills may have handily defeated the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, but they didn’t leave the game without losing some players.
Linebackers Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams, who have combined for 102 tackles this season, both left the game with ankle and knee injuries, respectively.
At the start of the week, coach Sean McDermott said that the team was going to wait and see with the linebackers. However, now that the practice week has begun, the team has been able to provide more insight into both of their injuries.
Williams was able to practice in a limited capacity, providing some optimism that he’ll be good to go by Sunday. However, Bernard missed practice, and McDermott said that he is day-to-day with his ankle injury.
Aside from Williams and Bernard, the Bills did have multiple other defensive starters show up on the injury report. Defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot and Daquan Jones also both missed practice on Wednesday. Smoot is dealing with a groin injury, while Jones has a foot ailment, but according to McDermott, his absence was a rest day.
While Smoot missing Sunday would be a tough loss, Bernard’s absence would easily be the most impactful. The Bills have already been without Bernard for multiple games this season, and his leadership and intensity on the field was certainly missed by the defense.
With Bernard’s designation as day-to-day, there’s a chance that the team won’t confirm his status for Sunday until the day of the game.
