Bills PFF grades: Keon Coleman finishes with top-2 grade among all NFL WRs in win over Seahawks

The Buffalo Bills found themselves backed up a few times on offense at Lumen Field thanks to penalties, but it certainly didn’t phase them. Buffalo made it look all too easy getting out of 1st and 20 and second and long situations throughout their 31-10 win over the Seattle Seahawks. Josh Allen and the offense were firing on all cylinders while the defense did a great job of limiting the Seahawks offense. Sure, there was a poor snap that benefitted Buffalo as well as Geno Smith getting stepped on by his linemen in a 4th and goal situation, but the team still came through with some big defensive plays and stands in the victory.

Following Buffalo’s sixth win of the season, Pro Football Focus (PFF) graded out the roster. Here’s a look at what the analytics site said about the team’s performance.

Keon Coleman becoming complete receiver

Keon Coleman’s one-hand grab for a touchdown received plenty of well-earned accolades, but his run blocking against the Seahawks isn’t being talked about nearly enough. In the blowout win, Coleman received an elite grade (90.8) as a run blocker. Only former Bills WR Robert Woods posted a higher grade in this area (92.2). Below are just two examples of Coleman dominating Seahawks defenders in the blocking game.

On Monday, Sean McDermott beamed about Coleman’s blocking and how the rookie has taken ownership and taken pride in setting the standard as a blocker.

Coleman has put together strong back-to-back performances and is only going to get better with time.

Top-5 offensive grades

TE Dawson Knox: 79.9 RB James Cook 76.9 WR Keon Coleman: 76.5 TE Dalton Kincaid: 73.5 OT Spencer Brown: 72.9

Spoiler: Amari Cooper had the Bills’ lowest offensive grade on Sunday.

Spoiler No. 2: It doesn’t matter.

When the Bills acquired Cooper via trade with the Browns, the general belief was that the move would make life easier for the team’s other playmakers. Through two games, that certainly appears to be the case with four of Josh Allen’s weapons appearing in the top-5. Knox hauled in both of his targets for 50 yards in the win, He also posted terrific grades as a run blocker (81.4) and pass blocking (71.6).

Cook averaged 6.5 yards per carry, Coleman added another score while hauling in five catches for 70 yards and Kincaid added a score while receiving seven targets.

Life is good for the Bills offense.

Top-5 defensive grades

DT Austin Johnson: 86.3 DE Greg Rousseau: 82.2 DE Dawuane Smoot: 77.4 CB Rasul Douglas: 75.7 CB Taron Johnson: 74.6

Greg Rousseau continues to be a disruptive force for Buffalo’s defense. Rousseau received the second-highest overall defensive grade on Sunday with pass-rush (87.3) being his best overall grade. Rousseau was credited with four total pressures (1 hit, 3 hurries), two batted passes and three defensive stops.

Buffalo’s defensive line posted the three highest grades for the Bills in their win on Sunday and the unit should only get better with Von Miller returning from suspension.

Bottom-3 offensive grades

WR Mack Hollins: 52.0 LG David Edwards: 51.4 WR Amari Cooper: 47.3

After an impressive debut, Cooper was fairly quiet in his second game as a member of the Bills. He was targeted just two times while finishing with one catch for three yards. He was also responsible for Josh Allen’s first interception after slipping on a third down play, but despite the quiet stat line, Cooper has made the offense better thanks to the attention defenses need to give him.

Bottom-3 defensive grades

LB Baylon Spector: 53.8 DE A.J. Epenesa: 46.4 LB Dorian Williams: 28.6

Seattle’s game plan on offense seemed to be attacking the middle of the field with Terrel Bernard out. They had plenty of success in that part of their game plan and it is reflected in the grades of Spector and Williams. Both players struggled in coverage with Spector earning a 58.4 grade while Williams was far behind at 28.1. Tackling was also an issue with Spector receiving a 34.1 grade in that area while Williams earned a 33.2 grade.

Hopefully Terrel Bernard can provide the unit a boost when he returns to the field.
