Buffalo’s top receiver hasn’t played at an elite level just yet, but that isn’t concerning to their franchise quarterback.
Since being traded from the Cleveland Browns to the Buffalo Bills, Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper has played in just two games.
Five catches, 69 yards, and a score are all the numbers he has put up to this point.
Buffalo may be considered a top overall offense, but it’s clearly been a struggle to get Cooper integrated into their offense along with All-Pro quarterback Josh Allen.
It’s been even harder since the veteran receiver suffered a wrist injury that kept him out of the team’s win over the Miami Dolphins, and out of practice on Wednesday.
Even still, the Bills (and Allen specifically) aren’t concerned about the numbers, or lack thereof that Cooper has put up in their offense.
“Since day one when he stepped in the building, he was ready to go,” Allen said. “He’s only continued to learn the playbook and learn his role in this offense. Whether we get him back this week or the next or whenever that case is, I know he’s going to be ready to go. It’ll be kind of plug-and-play and feel pretty seamless out there.”
Cooper being healthy is just the first step to becoming a more productive member of the organization. While the Bills can say all they want about his practice habits, they didn’t trade a third round pick for him to be a good practice player.
With upcoming matchups against the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, the Bills know they have plenty of tough contests ahead on their schedule.
And they’ll need more of Cooper if they are to win those.
