Big Bear Alpine Zoo Weekend Fundraisers Promote Wildlife Rescue Efforts
The Big Bear Alpine Zoo is sparking community spirit this weekend with two exciting fundraisers aimed at supporting wildlife conservation and care. As one of only two alpine zoos in the United States, the Big Bear Alpine Zoo plays a crucial role in the rehabilitation of injured and orphaned wildlife, making events like these vital to its mission.

This Saturday, April 26, the zoo kicks off the weekend with a 2.5-mile fun run and walk. The event will allow community members of all ages to enjoy the picturesque terrain while supporting a local cause. Set against the backdrop of the beautiful Rathbun Creek corridor, participants will start and finish at Moonridge Coffee Co., with the run beginning at 8:00 a.m. and concluding by 10:30 a.m. "Every dollar raised goes directly toward improving the lives of the animals in our care," said the event organizers, highlighting the event’s purpose.
On Sunday, April 27, the excitement continues with the annual “Bowling for the Zoo” fundraiser at The Bowling Barn from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This family-friendly event features bowling, a silent auction, and a 50/50 raffle, creating a perfect opportunity for fun and philanthropy. Organized by the Friends of the Big Bear Alpine Zoo (FOBBAZ), the proceeds will enhance the medical care, habitat improvements, and enrichment programs crucial for the zoo’s animal residents.

Since its establishment in 1959 as a rehabilitation facility, the Big Bear Alpine Zoo has successfully cared for over 85 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles. The legacy began following a devastating wildfire that displaced numerous animals, and to this day, the zoo remains dedicated to providing second chances for those who cannot return to their natural habitats.
With each event held this weekend, attendees will not just have fun but also raise critical awareness and support for wildlife rehabilitation. "It’s a chance to come together for a meaningful cause," emphasized organizers. Whether through running, walking, or bowling, every moment spent in support of the zoo enriches lives – both for the animals and the community.
