Binder Park Zoo Celebrates 50 Years of Connection with Nature
April 30, 2025 marks a monumental occasion for Binder Park Zoo as it opens its doors for the season and celebrates its 50th anniversary. Located in Battle Creek, Michigan, the zoo has been a sanctuary for wildlife and a bridge connecting people with nature since its inception in 1975.
With over 10 million visitors having walked through its gates, Binder Park Zoo is not just a recreational spot, but a leader in wildlife conservation efforts. Diane Thompson, the zoo's president and CEO, expressed the sentiment of gratitude towards the community, stating, "This is a special year, and we look forward to celebrating it with the community that has supported us for half a century." This connection to the local community is what makes this zoo a beloved institution.

The celebration will feature numerous exciting events throughout the year. The Cheetah Chase 5K on June 21 promises a unique experience as runners navigate the scenic paths of the zoo, embracing both fitness and the beauty of wildlife. Additionally, the popular Wild Wednesdays in July will see the zoo extend hours until 8 p.m., offering live musical performances under the stars.
Another highlight will be the Tour de Zoo, a long-awaited cycling event returning after a hiatus since 2019, allowing riders of all skill levels to explore the zoo's picturesque environment. The year will also include Corks & Kegs, a delightful evening dedicated to craft beverages and local cuisine.

The season will kick off with a soft opening exclusively for zoo members, allowing early access to some of the zoo's favorite attractions. For those looking to visit, the zoo’s hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends, with admissions priced at $18.75 for adults and lower for seniors and children.
Binder Park Zoo's commitment to education, conservation, and community connection remains at the forefront as they embark on this milestone year. Would you like to share your memories of Binder Park Zoo or express what the zoo has meant to you over the years? We invite you to leave a comment below!
