As Fort Rickey opens its doors for the season, visitors have the chance to meet Maybel and experience the joy this new arrival brings. The zoo will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays only until June 20, after which it will switch to daily operations. This seasonal reopening is not just about one calf but symbolizes a fresh start for the zoo and its community.

Besides Maybel, zoo-goers will have the opportunity to meet other fascinating residents. Mango, a rescued python from New Hartford, and Twister, a goat born on the day of last year’s tornado in Rome, are some of the stars ready to greet guests. The stories behind these animals not only captivate but also inspire awareness and empathy towards wildlife, voicing tales of rescue and survival.

This year's Mother's Day at Fort Rickey holds additional significance as it highlights both the beauty of new life and the bonds of motherhood in the animal kingdom. It's a reminder that, just like humans, female animals nurture and protect their young. Ruby, the proud mother of Maybel, showcases this bond, creating an emotional connection for visitors as they witness the inherent love between a mother and her offspring.

In conclusion, Fort Rickey Discovery Zoo's reopening and the welcoming of Maybel provide an engaging experience for families. The fusion of nature education and memorable moments makes this location a must-visit destination this season. How do you plan to celebrate Mother’s Day surrounded by wildlife?
