Get Up Close and Personal: Feed the Giraffes at Turtleback Zoo

The Giraffe Feed experience at Turtleback Zoo in West Orange is transforming the typical zoo visit into an exciting African safari. This unique opportunity allows visitors to interact closely with the tallest mammals on earth, offering a delightful experience for families and animal lovers alike.

Starting from May 18, 2025, weekend guests can participate in this memorable encounter every Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. For just $5 per person (cash only), you can feed the giraffes, a highlight for young visitors eager to learn more about these majestic animals.

Located in the zoo's African Adventure area, the Giraffe Feed is more than just an activity; it’s an opportunity to marvel at the impressive stature and gentle nature of these creatures. The experience, however, is dependent on various factors. The zoo emphasizes that any changes in weather conditions—including high winds, rain, and low temperatures—could affect the availability of this attractive event. Their notice assures guests that the giraffe feeding area is outdoors and may close in response to inclement weather.

For many, part of the adventure is the unpredictability and thrill of interacting with wildlife. However, the zoo is also committed to the health and comfort of the animals, meaning their participation is contingent on their willingness and health status at the time.
