School Bus Incident Delays Children’s Trip To Zoo

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — A group of schoolchildren headed to the zoo on Thursday morning arrived a bit later than planned after their bus was involved in a crash. This incident not only caused delays but raised concerns about the safety of school transportation.

According to officials from the Village of Brookfield, the crash unfolded near the intersection of East 31st Street and Kemman Avenue, about two miles west of the zoo. The impact involved a school bus carrying children and a black SUV, illustrating the potential dangers of busy roadways, especially during school hours.

WGN Traffic Map reported that another bus was promptly dispatched to the scene to transport the children to the zoo, ensuring that their excursion could continue despite the setback. Around 11 a.m., SkyCam 9 captured children moving from one bus to another, showcasing the swift action of local authorities in managing the situation.

Initially, two fire trucks and two ambulances were seen near the crash site; however, officials have not confirmed whether any injuries occurred. After the accident, a portion of the roadway was temporarily closed, indicating the seriousness of the incident. Fortunately, authorities anticipated the closures would last only about 30 minutes, minimizing disruption.
