In an impressive fusion of technology and environmental stewardship, the Ferroport at the Port of Açu in São João da Barra, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is leading the charge in wildlife conservation while enhancing security measures. The port recently partnered with Axis Communications to implement state-of-the-art video surveillance technology. Marcelo Oliveira, the Property Security Coordinator for Ferroport, underscored the importance of balancing security while protecting wildlife. With 206 cameras in strategic locations, Ferroport is now able to monitor for unauthorized vessels more effectively, addressing both safety and compliance with regulations like the ISPS Code.

Ferroport's commitment extends beyond surveillance; it encompasses a broader sustainability strategy that includes planting 66,000 trees and protecting over 1.3 million loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings since 2008. Such efforts are critical in combating the challenges faced by endangered species in the region.
Winicius Corali, Regional Sales Manager at Axis Communications, noted that Ferroport’s initiative serves as a model for other ports. The technology's dual focus on security and conservation illustrates an evolving trend of corporate responsibility in environmental sustainability.
