Detroit Zoo Introduces New Penny Press Machines For Guests

The Detroit Zoo is excited to announce the introduction of two penny-pressing machines that aim to provide visitors with a unique and fun way to create pocket-sized memories of their visit. These machines, crafted for both nostalgia and creativity, will be located in popular spots within the zoo, making it convenient for guests to utilize during their day of animal exploration.

For just $1.01, guests can use these machines at two locations: the bustling Table 28 and the educational Ron Kagan Wildlife Interpretive Gallery. Each machine offers four distinct designs to choose from, allowing visitors to collect two complete sets featuring beloved zoo inhabitants. Among the exciting designs are the elegant Polar Bear, the enigmatic Reticulated Python, the playful Chimpanzee, and the mighty Gorilla. At the Ron Kagan Gallery, guests can also find designs of the vibrant Scarlet Ibis, the charming King Penguin, the rare Panamanian Golden Frog, and the iconic Detroit Zoo Water Tower.

Emily O’Hara, Senior Director of Guest Experiences at the Detroit Zoo, expressed the zoo’s commitment to enhancing visitor experiences. "We’re always looking for ways to make a trip to the Zoo more memorable,” she stated. “These new machines are a small moment of joy—something tangible that brings people together and keeps the connection going after they leave.” This initiative highlights the zoo's ongoing efforts to foster engagement and connection between guests and the wildlife they cherish.

The introduction of these penny-pressing machines not only serves as a delightful souvenir opportunity but also strengthens the sense of community among visitors. As families and individuals leave the zoo with their pressed pennies, they carry home a piece of their adventure, fostering both nostalgia and connection.

In a world increasingly focused on virtual experiences, tangible memorabilia like these pressed pennies remind us of the joy found in real-life moments spent with nature and wildlife. The Detroit Zoo’s creative approach encapsulates the essence of a memorable outing, encouraging families to engage and bond over their shared experiences.

As visitors embrace the new machines, one can’t help but wonder: What other innovative ideas might the Detroit Zoo implement to deepen the connection between humans and animals? We invite you to share your thoughts and experiences from your visits to the zoo in the comments below!
