Exciting Earth Day Activities Await at PAROC And David Traylor Zoo
Earth Day is just around the corner, and in Emporia, exciting activities are in full swing to celebrate this important event. On Saturday, community members are invited to join in a range of fun and educational opportunities at the Prophet Aquatic and Research Outreach Center (PAROC) and the David Traylor Zoo.
From 10 AM to noon, PAROC will host a slew of activities that engage visitors of all ages. According to Outreach and Engagement Coordinator Alexandra Hayes, the event promises to be bustling from start to finish. "We have a variety of educational tables, trash and recycling stations, as well as plant and bake sales among other features," Hayes shared. Not only will participants learn about environmental protection, but they will also be rewarded: those who visit all booths will be eligible for various prizes.

Later in the day, from 1 PM to 3 PM, the zoo will kick off its own set of celebratory activities known as the "Party for the Planet." Outreach Coordinator Kelli Proehl has promised a day filled with engaging programs aimed at fostering a deep appreciation for wildlife and the environment. "It's a great way for us to come together as a community and promote conservation awareness," Proehl stated.
The beauty of Earth Day is not just in the celebrations; it lies in the collective action taken by individuals across the globe. Officially recognized on Tuesday, more than a billion people worldwide participate in various activities aimed at protecting our planet. This year, Emporia is certainly doing its part.
The events at PAROC and the David Traylor Zoo offer free admission, ensuring that everyone can partake in the festivities. This accessibility highlights the importance of community engagement, as every individual’s actions contribute to a larger impact.
As we gear up for Earth Day, these events serve as a reminder of our responsibility toward the environment. Whether through educational initiatives, community activities, or simply enjoying nature, every little step counts.
