Memphis Zoo Unveils Newly Renovated Veterinary Hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Leaders at the Memphis Zoo are set on Friday to cut the ribbon on a newly renovated veterinary hospital. This will be its first update in 25 years.

This upgraded facility is a cornerstone of the Memphis Zoo’s mission to provide top-tier care for its animals. The hospital is where everything from routine checkups to emergency procedures and quarantine care takes place. It serves as a lifeline for the more than 4,000 animals that call the zoo home.

Thanks to the success of the Zoo Hospital Fundraising Campaign, which raised $1.7 million, the facility now houses some of the most advanced veterinary technology available. This includes a 128-slice CT scanner, upgraded X-ray units, brand-new endoscopy equipment, and LED surgical lighting — all of which will drastically enhance the zoo’s ability to diagnose and treat animals with precision and efficiency.

Along with the technological upgrades, the hospital has expanded its 11,500-square-foot footprint to include a new conference room and receiving area, making the space more functional for both staff and visiting specialists. Officials said the new facility isn’t just about what’s new — it’s also about what’s next. And for the Memphis Zoo, that means continuing to lead in conservation, education and compassionate care.
