New EARTH Connection Center: A Gateway to Nature and Education
EARTH Ltd., a dedicated non-profit organization focused on conservation and nature education, is set to open an exciting new facility next to Southwick’s Zoo in Mendon this summer. The EARTH Connection Center promises to enhance the way visitors, both young and old, engage with nature.

According to Betsey Brewer, the executive director and founder of EARTH, the center is designed to explore the inherent connection between humans and all living creatures. "We are really excited about the new EARTH Connection Center," Brewer shared. "It will allow us to expand our programming, making every day Earth Day." With a spacious 3,000-square-foot layout, the one-story building will feature interactive spaces for presentations, unique animal encounters, and a serene outdoor area complementing a rooftop deck ideal for stargazing.
The center is not just about environmental education; it aims to be a year-round venue for community engagement. Brewer highlighted that they will be offering a variety of programs during off-peak times. "One program we’re planning is a special Valentine’s Day presentation for adults focusing on animal breeding," she noted. In addition, the center will host youth programs during February vacation and a continuation of their regular summer Wild Adventure experiences.
One of Brewer’s favorite aspects is the rooftop stargazing area, complete with couches and a telescope for observing celestial wonders. “Guest speakers will present on significant astronomical events while we offer craft programs for both adults and kids,” she explained, emphasizing their inclusivity for all ages in educational encounters with animals.
Community involvement is central to EARTH’s mission, and Brewer invites suggestions for future programming. "We want the community and our members to let us know what type of activities they would enjoy," she stated, reinforcing the notion that the center acts as a hub for connection and knowledge.
Available for year-round rentals, the new Connection Center presents opportunities to host events in its versatile spaces. Brewer expressed optimism that visitors will appreciate the chance to hold events on the rooftop or in the interactive LED environment, enhancing their experience at the zoo.
As anticipation builds, a soft opening on August 8 coincides with EARTH’s annual Winos for Rhinos fundraiser, aimed at raising support for rhino conservation through Project Rhino, alongside other efforts like Worth Wild Africa, the Trumpeter Swan project, and the Bird Endowment.
Public interest continues to grow as the grand opening approaches in September. Since its establishment in 1999, EARTH Ltd. has slowly and steadily expanded its initiatives, enriching understanding of the interconnection between humans and nature. The combination of educational programs—including encounters with sloths and rhinos—creates an interactive experience like no other.
