Two New Bobcats Bring Joy to Cape May County Zoo

In a heartwarming addition to the Cape May County Zoo, two young bobcat siblings have arrived, capturing the attention of wildlife enthusiasts and families alike. Born in June 2024, this brother and sister duo made their way from Arizona to New Jersey in March, where they now call the zoo's small mammals section home. As bobcats are known to be elusive creatures, the arrival of these two charismatic felines is not only significant for the zoo but for wildlife education and conservation efforts as well.

Zoo visitors can catch a glimpse of these fascinating animals daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors are also invited to participate in various zoo events and activities. Notably, the Easter EggstravaganZOO that takes place from April 18 to April 25 promises engaging activities like an Easter Bunny I Spy Hunt and a scavenger hunt. The Earth Day Celebration follows on April 26, offering families eco-friendly entertainment and educational opportunities.

The bobcats have yet to be given names, but their charms are already winning hearts. According to the zoo's statement, "These elusive creatures, primarily nocturnal, inhabit various ecosystems and are rarely spotted in the wild." The addition of these bobcats enhances the zoo’s commitment to educating the public about wildlife and the importance of conservation.

Social media has erupted with excitement as visitors share their experiences and photos with the new inhabitants. Many are still mourning the loss of Mr. Peepers, the beloved bobcat who passed away last year at the age of 20. Mr. Peepers was previously kept as a pet and brought to the zoo, where he became a star due to his playful antics, love for hammocks, and his fondness for catnip and baby food. His legacy lives on as fans of the zoo find themselves enchanted by the new siblings.

The Cape May County Park and Zoo, located at 720 Route 9 North in Cape May Court House, is free to the public, making it an accessible place for families to create lasting memories while learning about wildlife. Join the conversation on social media and share your experiences with these bobcat siblings or any memorable visits to the zoo!
