The Buffalo Bills have already shut up a lot of doubters

I’m old enough to remember when everyone was writing off the Buffalo Bills after they released several veterans and traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans.

“Who will Josh Allen throw to?” they all cried.

“This defense will take a massive step back,” they insisted.

Even Vegas was down on the Bills, setting their win total at over/under 9.5 – keep in mind that Allen and the Bills have the second-most wins over the last four seasons and haven’t finished with less than 10 wins since 2018.

Hell, ESPN projected that the Bills would finish 7-10.

And yet, here we are. The Bills are 2-0 and coming off one of their bi-annual beatdowns of the Miami Dolphins, who look like a team just trying to keep their heads above water. The New York Jets had to give everything they had just to beat the Tennessee Titans. And despite their 1-1 start, the New England Patriots are starting a journeyman backup and will be lucky to get to six wins.

Buffalo’s supposed drop-off on offense has resulted in the Bills being second in EPA per play and averaging over 30 points per game. And the defense that was going to fall off a cliff is sixth in EPA per play despite not having Matt Milano and Taron Johnson.

The lesson here? Buffalo isn’t going anywhere. And as long as Josh Allen is under center, their window is open.
