This Rare “Goth” Chicken is the Newest Craze of the Poultry World – Meet the Ayam Cemani

Get your spirits up because you’re going to see what’s been dubbed the “Lamborghini of chickens” up close and personal. In fact, this is an Indonesian Ayam Cemani, an exceptionally rare breed of bird, and it’s easy to see why. Everything in its vicinity is black, including its fur, beak, tongue, legs, toenails, flesh, bones, and organs! The other thing that wasn’t right was the blood color, which was likewise substantially darker than usual.

In terms of the name, “Ayam” means “chicken” in Indonesian, and “Cemani” means “totally black” in Javanese. The breed’s unusual coloration derives from a genetic code termed “fibromelanosis”. It’s difficult to understand how somebody can consume meat of such a different color and believe that its value is as insignificant as fast food. On the contrary, a single chicken might cost up to 2,500 USD! Generally, 15 chickens of the most common species cost $85, or somewhat more – $149 – for more exotic varieties.

There are also several erroneous rumors, impressions, and misconceptions concerning the appearance of this one-of-a-kind chicken. Yet, once you’ve mastered it, you’ll be entirely absorbed and, more or less, highly interesting:
