AFC Player of the Week Aims to Conquer Past Ghosts in Jacksonville

James Cook, the Buffalo Bills running back, is off to a strong start this season. This continues a trend from late last season when the Bills began featuring him more heavily in their offense.

Since Joe Brady took over as offensive coordinator, Buffalo has leaned more on the run, with Cook often the focal point rather than quarterback Josh Allen. Through two games, Cook has established himself as the Bills’ primary rushing threat, amassing 30 carries for 149 yards and two touchdowns, already matching his career high for a season.

His performance in Week 2 against the Miami Dolphins was particularly impressive. Cook was the standout player, rushing for 78 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.

He also contributed as a receiver, catching a 17-yard touchdown pass. This breakout game earned him AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

However, Cook will be aiming for a better showing against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3 than he had in their matchup last year. In that game, played in London, Cook was limited to just five carries for -4 yards.

He did manage three catches for 25 yards, salvaging his stat line somewhat. The Jaguars present a favorable matchup for Cook this week.

They have allowed over 100 rushing yards per game and are yet to force a turnover. The key factor will be the performance of the Bills’ offensive line.

If they can create running lanes against Jacksonville’s defensive front, Cook should have opportunities to break free.

Coming off an outstanding game against Miami, Cook has the potential for another big performance against a Florida team in Week 3. A stat line of 16 carries, 96 rushing yards, one touchdown, four catches, and 35 receiving yards seems like a reasonable projection for Cook this week.
