Clip goes viral: Alien looking creature transforms itself 3,700 feet deep in Indian Ocean

There are many things in our planet’s oceans that deep-sea scientists have yet to discover. Every now and then, the unknown washes up on a beach or is seen on high-tech cameras.

While many of them turn out to be known species, others confound researchers and scientists because of their physical characteristics and appearance.

Something of that sort was seen recently for a few minutes in the Indian Ocean.

The footage shows a bizarre-looking creature transforming itself 3,700 feet deep in the ocean.

The thing appears to be a monster from an ancient arcade game that gamers usually shoot, or a xenomorph (the other-worldly creature made famous by James Cameron and Ridley Scott in the ‘Alien’ movie franchise).

It floats around for about 40 seconds before suddenly shrinking into a tiny black ball shape. A few seconds later, it opens up and becomes a little elongated to resemble the top of a lemon squeezer.

Watch video:

The video was captured by a ROV (remotely operated vehicle) at a depth of 3753 feet in the Indian Ocean, according to sources. Nevertheless, near the end of the video, the creature is seen becoming entangled in the output of the ROV thrusters.

The clip was circulated online back in 2013 but resurfaced on social media platforms recently.

It was reshared on the YouTube channel CaptainJRD, with the description: “This video was taken by an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) at a depth of 3753 ft in the Indian Ocean within close proximity to a drill wellhead. Near the end of the footage you can see the creature getting caught up in the output from the ROV thrusters. The video has not been altered and was taken off the East coast of Africa.”

The video has now garnered over 1.5 million views on YouTube with users trying their best to identify the creature.
