Brock Purdy injury: Could 49ers QB miss Buffalo Bills matchup in Week 13?

The San Francisco 49ers are playing Brandon Allen at quarterback in Week 12 against the Green Bay Packers. The team’s starting quarterback, Brock Purdy, was ruled out late in the week due to a shoulder injury he suffered in the team’s 20-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.

There is optimism that Purdy will be ready to play against the Buffalo Bills in Week 13, but based on an update provided by NFL insider Jay Glazer on Sunday, there seems to be some uncertainty.

“He hurt his arm last week against Seattle,” Glazer said on FOX’s NFL pregame show. “Monday they gave him an MRI. It showed a shoulder sprain. Tuesday [and] Wednesday he practiced. They thought he was tracking on the right pace there. On Thursday, he went out and tried to throw [and] it just locked up on him. So what nobody knows is they gave him another MRI on Thursday, but it didn’t show anything else. So they’re kind of living in question of when he’s going to come back there. They’re going to just rehab it and hope he comes back next week. They just don’t know right now.”

The 49ers have been the class of the NFC over the past half-decade, appearing in the NFC Championship Game in four of the past five seasons. This year, however, injuries have taken their toll on the team. They enter Week 12 with a 5-5 record.

Whether Purdy plays or not, the quarterback is unlikely to be at 100 percent when they head to Highmark Stadium to take on the Bills on Sunday Night Football next week.
