Orchard Park, N.Y. — When players aren’t practicing, in meetings or playing in games, they can still be taking part in activities that involve the game.
That’s exactly what Amari Cooper was doing on Tuesday afternoon as the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns were finalizing a trade for the wide receiver. During Buffalo’s 34-10 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, the CBS broadcast team revealed that Cooper was in the midst of a commitment signing Browns memorabilia. As soon as he finished his two hour session, Cooper found out that he had been traded to Buffalo.
Perhaps the aforementioned memorabilia can be sold at a discounted rate to Browns fans.
The trade was a whirlwind for Cooper. By Tuesday night, he was in his car driving from Cleveland to Buffalo. On Wednesday, Cooper started his deep dive of the Bills playbook. Despite Sean McDermott putting some doubt out there about Cooper being able to play on Sunday, Cooper told the media that he knew from the get go that he would be playing against the Titans.
“They said right on the phone, you’re playing this week,” Cooper told the media postgame.
To Cooper’s credit, the wide receiver picked up a good amount of the playbook in a short time. That allowed the Bills to utilize him for 33 percent of the team’s offensive plays against the Titans. Following an early drop, Cooper responded with four receptions for 66 yards and one touchdown. In addition to a great individual performance, Cooper’s play opened things up for the rest of the passing game with three other players going over 50 yards receiving in the 34-10 win.
