CBS Sports lists the one thing that could be a fly in the ointment for Chiefs in 2024

The Kansas City Chiefs managed to win their second straight Super Bowl this past season despite having one of their weakest teams of the Patrick Mahomes era. The defense, however, was the strongest it had ever been during Mahomes’ time in Kansas City.

That being said, the Chiefs had to make some tough decisions over the offseason and one of the toughest decisions was trading L’Jarius Sneed. The Chiefs shipped Sneed to Tennessee and now their cornerback unit has taken a hit.

According to Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports, the loss of Sneed now makes the Chiefs cornerback depth the team’s biggest red flag.

“Kansas City wouldn’t have traded L’Jarius Sneed, their top cover man in 2023, if Trent McDuffie hadn’t also emerged as a versatile starter in the secondary. Even so, new running mate Joshua Williams enters 2024 with just six career starts under his belt, putting more pressure on the safeties.”

Is cornerback depth the Chiefs’ biggest weakness in 2024?

The cornerback group will look a bit different without Sneed but as we’ve seen from Steve Spagnuolo during his time as the Chiefs defensive coordinator, this unit will be ready to rock. Cody Benjamin mentioned Trent McDuffie in his write-up and the Chiefs have been lucky that he’s blossomed into a lockdown starter early in his career.

Benjamin also mentioned Joshua Williams, who the Chiefs in the fourth round in 2022. Williams hasn’t been a regular starter during his time with the team but he was a nice depth piece for KC to have, especially during both Super Bowl runs that he’s been a part of.

Hey, it’s the offseason and these kinds of articles are going to make their way around until we have actual games to focus on. The Chiefs cornerback group will look different this year but as the t-shirts the defense had made up said, “In Spags We Trust”.
