For the first time since they became the deadliest trio in the NBA, Draymond Green and Stephen Curry won’t have Klay Thompson by their sides.
Thompson missed a couple of seasons with injuries, and Curry entered the league before him, but he was a part of that locker room even when he was hurt.
Now, he’s not even in the same state.
Needless to say, this is an emotional moment for the fans, but also for the players.
Green and Thompson got quite emotional a couple of months ago when they discussed potentially breaking their core up when he made an appearance on Green’s podcast, and even though they always knew that was a possibility, they still weren’t ready for that to happen.
That’s why, when asked his thoughts about Thompson joining the Dallas Mavericks, Green admitted that he was suppressing his emotions because he still hadn’t allowed himself to process that (via Warriors on NBC Sports).
“It’s a classic tale of supressing your emotions … I haven’t allowed myself to really process it.”

Green also said he hopes his former teammate has a great year and proves that he’s still got plenty left in the tank.
If it were up to Green and Curry, Thompson would’ve most definitely stayed there.
Thompson, however, urged Curry not to use his leverage and power to get him the contract he was looking for, as he wanted the team’s decision-makers to want him around.
This could be the beginning of the end of the Warriors’ incredible run, and it’ll be interesting to see whether they made a mistake or not.
