Healing hearts: Ailing dog discovers comfort, thanks to the loving embrace of shelter cats

Tam is a 9-year-old dog residing in Ferme Refuge Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir (SARA), Morocco. He suffers from blindness and Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a genetic disease that causes exaggerated flexibility of joints and skin and poor healing of wounds. As a result, Tam often has low spirits, but he is lucky to have his sister, Daccia, who also suffers from the same syndrome and with whom he gets along wonderfully.

Moreover, Tam can count on a whole team of devoted and affectionate cats who have made it their mission to support those among their friends who need comfort. Elodie and the other cats at SARA often gather around Tam to reassure him and make him understand that he is not alone. They give him hugs, massages, and even share his basket with him. The cats at SARA have become accustomed to comforting Tam, who is known to be the most popular dog in the shelter because of his gentle nature and willingness to lay down quietly with the cats.

Although most of the residents of SARA manage to find adoptive families, Daccia and Tam were not so lucky because of their illness. SARA is one of the three shelters of the Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir association, which currently accommodates over 200 cats rescued from wandering, as well as elderly and sick dogs. It is quite difficult for anyone to sit down at the Refuge Farm without being immediately surrounded by cats, but Tam is the perfect pillow for a nap, and he appreciates the closeness and affection from his feline friends.
