Braeden Rouse hooked a 159 kilogram sturgeon that was 8 feet 6 inches long and weighed about 159 kilograms.
According to CTV News Calgary, the man had no work over the weekend and decided to try his luck in the river, where he ended up with his largest catch. He even dragged the enormous Triassic-era fish to shore.e.
“Roofing closes down in Alberta for the winter because of the cold weather, so we came out here so we could work during the cold weather,” Rouse told the news channel. “We had the weekend off, so we decided to go try our luck.”
He and his girlfriend, Sidney Kozelenko, drove three hours to a fishing area on the Fraser River. He had not anticipated catching a big sturgeon. But, getting the beast near to the shore took roughly half an hour and a helping hand from Sidney and his kayak.
“I knew it was big,” he said. “You can tell it’s big because when you go to pull, it won’t move… like, it won’t budge, and it’ll actually start running.” “As soon as it started running, I’m like, ‘Okay, I need to hop in my kayak,’” he explained.
This is when Sidney realized the size of the catch and began filming it. The sturgeon was pulling Rouse all around the river, and it began to go downstream.
“I battled him for about 25 minutes on river, and then we finally tired the fish out.” the roofer said, adding that the sturgeon also took him upstream.
After catching the fish, Rouse and Sidney reportedly released the sturgeon back into the water after taking it to the shore.
