Josh Allen gives weak non-answer for why the Bills threw three times on final drive

That’s your answer?

The Buffalo Bills lost a winnable game to the Houston Texans and have now lost two games in a row after starting the year 3-0. The Bills trailed by 20-3 early in the second half but came from behind to tie things up with a little over three minutes remaining in the game.

After forcing the Texans to punt, the Bills offense got the ball back with 32 seconds to go and a chance to win the game with a field goal. Buffalo’s offense was backed up on their own three-yard line but that still didn’t excuse what we saw from a team that has Josh freaking Allen as their quarterback.

The Bills decided to throw the ball not once, not twice, but THREE times on this drive. It might not have been a big deal had the first one been complete down the field but no, all three passes were incomplete and therefore, stopped the clock.

With the Bills being so backed up into their own end zone, they should have ran the ball there, milked the clock, and just took this game to overtime. Or at the very least, threw the ball on the first try and then ran it twice after that when it was clear they weren’t completing a pass.

What happened instead was that the Bills punted the ball back to Houston with 16 seconds on the clock. Because of how far the Bills were in their own end zone, the Texans got the ball back with great field position and that ended up being the downfall of Buffalo in an eventual 23-20 loss. The Texans kicked the field goal to win the game and drop the Bills to 3-2.

Following the game, Josh Allen pretty much gave a non-answer as to why the Bills handled their final possession the way they did. “Coach is going to trust us to go out there and [be aggressive]. Obviously would love to convert there, hindsight is 20/20/ But, yeah.”

Josh Allen provides little insight on Bills’ blunder at the end of the game

Obviously Allen isn’t going to completely throw his coaches or teammates under the bus but this answer should infuriate Bills fans. He said that Sean McDermott wants them to be aggressive, not stupid or careless. Those throws Allen attempted weren’t even good throws.

The Bills will hopefully rebound from this loss and go on to win the division again but it’s games like these that remind us of why this team hasn’t been able to make a Super Bowl during the McDermott/Allen era. They have to be smarter in these kinds of moments.
