The Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring veteran point guard Chris Paul, who could become a free agent this summer after his stint with the Golden State Warriors.
According to Marc Stein, Paul is expected to attract interest from both L.A. teams if the Warriors decline his $30 million contract option before June 28. However, Stein also notes that while the Lakers are considering Paul, the organization may not be fully unified on the idea despite his close friendship with LeBron James.
Paul’s future with the Warriors remains uncertain. If they choose to guarantee his contract, he would stay in Golden State for the 2023-24 season. However, given his age and the hefty price tag of the contract, it’s widely speculated that the Warriors might pass on the option, making Paul a free agent.
Last season, Paul primarily played a bench role for the Warriors, averaging 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 6.8 assists per game. Despite his contributions, the team failed to make the playoffs, marking the first time Paul missed the postseason since 2010.
If Paul becomes available, it will be interesting to see where he ultimately lands and how he fits into the plans of the Lakers, Clippers, or any other potential suitors.
