It’s time to make roughing the passer reviewable.
On Monday Night Football, the NFL officiating crew assigned to the Buffalo Bills’ game against the New York Jets called what may have been the worst roughing the quarterback call in the history of the NFL.
Leading by three, Buffalo was looking for a third down stop against the Jets offense after missing a field goal to open the second half. It appeared that the defense did just that with A.J. Epenesa coming up with his second sack of the night while trying to strip Aaron Rodgers of the football. Instead of Buffalo coming off of the field, however, the officials threw a flag and penalized Epenesa for roughing the quarterback. The penalty call against Epenesa kept the Jets on the field and allowed them to kick a then game-tying field goal.
Following the play, many people reacted on social media calling the penalty one of the worst in league history. Here are a few of the reactions.
That last Roughing the Passer / Body Weight Flag on #57 #Bills was complete BS and why I have a hard time watching the #NFL #Jets #BillsMafia

We just witnessed the WORST roughing the passer call in NFL history…
Even Rodgers was seen mouthing to Epenesa that it was a soft call 🤦♂️
