There are many animals in the world that have been domesticated and kept as pets; everything from dogs and cats to snakes and rats.
One of the less common species to have as a pet are birds.

While they are not as popular as some other animals, birds are one of the smarter creatures we can call our friends.
There are even some birds that are so smart that they know and understand what you are saying and can talk back.
One of those super smart avian creatures is the parrot.

There are many different types of parrots and one of the rarer breeds, is the Solomon Island Eclectus Parrot.
Solomon Island Eclectus parrots are smaller than many other types of parrots, usually coming in at around 14 inches tall, and 14 ounces in weight.
The males of the species are usually a bright vibrant green color, while females are usually red.

There is one young parrot who lives with his owners in Cape Coral, Florida.
Tiki is a 5-year-old parrot who has been owned by Brent Chadwell since he was just a little chick.
Brent and his girlfriend love Tiki immensely and, while he has a cage, he is usually not locked in and is allowed to fly about the home whenever he pleases.

Because they are not used to locking him in the cage, they forgot to do so when cleaning the house one day.
Brent’s girlfriend was bringing garbage bags out of the house and had left the door open when Tiki decided he wanted to go on an adventure and he flew right out the door.
The couple immediately realized what had happened and they went out to look for him right then and there.

For 3 long days, they searched, going out early and staying out late.
Brent flooded social media with pictures of Tiki and asked people to keep an eye out for the little bird.
After many hours of searching, he was beginning to lose hope, “I knew it was 50/50, at best, if we ever saw him again.”

All the while, Tiki was trying to find his way back home.
The bird who had been with Brent every day for 5 years was missing his caretaker, and friend, immensely.
Eventually, the little bird spotted a group of people and decided he would try to get some help from them.

Shortly after a family Easter dinner, the Schweizer family was out on their patio enjoying some drinks when they heard something strange.
“Peek-a-boo!” said a voice from behind the patriarch of the family, Reed.
“Peek-a-boo!” the voice called again, and that is when Reed looked over and realized the sound had come from a beautiful bird.

Reed didn’t know exactly what to make of the talking bird, but he could sense that the bird needed help.
He realized that this was obviously someone’s pet that had flown away and he wanted nothing more than to help the creature get back home.
Luckily, Reed’s sister, a veterinarian, was in town for the holiday and she knew they had to try to get him inside before he could fly away again.

They got the little bird into the bathroom and took a few pictures so they could post them to social media.
Within 15 minutes, Brent had seen the post and was on his way to Reed’s house to reunite with his buddy.
“I started crying as soon as I saw that picture because I knew that was Tiki,” Brent says, “The fact that we found him a quarter of a mile away and after 3 days was a miracle.”

The pair were ecstatic to see each other after their separation, and both surely know that they never want to experience another situation like that ever again.
