Warriors’ Steph Curry: ‘Can Never See Myself Not with’ Klay Thompson, Draymond Green

Following the Golden State Warriors’ early exit from the play-in tournament, Stephen Curry emphasized his desire to continue playing alongside Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, stating, “I can never see myself not with those two guys.” This comes as Thompson enters free agency, raising questions about the future of the Warriors’ iconic trio.

The Warriors’ core has been together since 2012, achieving remarkable success with nine playoff appearances, six NBA Finals appearances, and four championships. This dynasty, comparable to the Lakers’ dominance in the early 2000s, faces a potential turning point as Thompson’s contract expires.

The 2023-24 season presented challenges for the aging Warriors, with varying performances from the core players. Curry, at 36, maintained his elite level, while Green, 34, contributed significantly despite two suspensions. Thompson, however, struggled with one of his worst seasons statistically.

Thompson reportedly desires to remain with the Warriors, but unresolved contract negotiations throughout the season have caused friction. The Warriors must weigh the benefits of re-signing Thompson against the potential development of younger talents like Kuminga, Podziemski, Moody, and Jackson-Davis.

Golden State faces a difficult decision: prioritize short-term contention with their established core or build for the future by potentially parting ways with Thompson. This offseason could mark a significant shift in the Warriors’ dynasty as they navigate the balance between present and future success.
