Will Jaire Alexander play for the Packers against the Lions on Thursday? Latest injury update for the cornerback

Cornerback Jaire Alexander has officially been ruled out and he won’t get back in time to play against the Detroit Lions on Thursday. On Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers released their injury report, and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, cornerback Corey Ballentine, and wide receiver Romeo Doubs have all been declared as out.

Jaire Alexander

The former All-Pro cornerback has missed three of the last four games — and barely was on the field in the one he did play — because of a knee injury he suffered against the Jacksonville Jaguars more than a month ago.

It is a PCL injury, and the Packers have always had the expectation of an in-season return for him. He was limited throughout the week of practice, but was listed as a DNP on Wednesday and ruled out.

This is will the sixth game Jaire Alexander will miss in 2024.

Romeo Doubs

Wide receiver Romeo Doubs is still in the concussion protocol, and the Packers ruled him out as well. It’s the second consecutive game he will miss.

The third-year wide receiver suffered a concussion 10 days ago against the San Francisco 49ers. The short week was a problem, so he missed the Miami Dolphins game last week. Even though he was limited throughout this week, there wasn’t enough time for him to get back.

Edgerrin Cooper

Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, who missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, won’t be able to return this week. He suffered the injury at practice in the week leading up to the 49ers game. The Packers don’t expect this to be a long-term injury, so he wasn’t placed on injured reserve.

This means he has a real shot at playing after the mini-bye, when the Packers face the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15.

Corey Ballentine

Cornerback Corey Ballentine injured his knee on the first play of the game on Thanksgiving against the Dolphins.

Without Jaire Alexander and Corey Ballentine, the Packers only have Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Eric Stokes, and Robert Rochell at cornerback on the 53-man roster. Kamal Hadden and Kalen King are the options on the practice squad.

Defensive tackle Kenny Clark (rest), tight end John FitzPatrick (back), running back Josh Jacobs (calf), left guard Elgton Jenkins (knee), linebacker Isaiah McDuffie (ankle), center Josh Myers (pectoral), left tackle Rasheed Walker (knee), and defensive tackle Colby Wooden (shoulder) are all off the injury report and are expected to play on Thursday.

The other side

The Detroit Lions are going through a lot in terms of injuries. And for this game in particular, they will have significant absences, including left tackle Taylor Decker and interior defensive lineman DJ Reader.
