On the Arctic tundra, a mysterious enormous crater just appeared

Not long ago, a Vesti Yamal TV crew made the discovery of a lifetime when they came across what appears to be the largest crater ever discovered on this planet.

This caught them off guard because they weren’t really trying to get there in the first place, but they were merely returning from another task along the road.

The massive cylindrical crater was quite a sight, to say the least, so they quickly spread the word sufficiently for a team of scientists to come here.

This team ended up examining the entire area, demonstrating the fact that this crater was roughly 50 meters deep and was formed entirely by natural causes.

This crater, like most others, was formed by the accumulation of methane gas within pockets of thawing permafrost beneath the northern tundra. This combination is extremely dangerous since it creates a tremendous explosion, causing the crater to form overnight.

According to Every Chuvilin, the head researcher at the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, this is the largest crater ever discovered.

Professor Vasily Bogoyavlensky noted that after being assigned the identification number seventeen, this particular crater will most likely be utilized to try to recognize these craters before they develop in order to prevent any more casualties caused by these explosions.
